If you’re thinking about growing your own this summer, whether into containers or beds, starting the process from seed is a cheap and super satisyfing way to grow. This video is an oldie, but it shows you how to sow into module trays. Lots of Growers I’ve worked with favour this method. By sowing one seed per module, you stand a better change of raising a healthy seedling and you minimise the disturbance to the roots when transplanting. I’m a convert!
Right now it’s a great time to be sowing lettuces, herbs, and edible flowers. I’m a bit of a sucker for buying seeds, but once you’ve sown and grown something once, you can let one of the plants go to seed, and save it for next year. See my post on saving your own seeds for a demo. So consider buying your first packet as a very economical investment for the future.
