I can’t walk past a lavender bush without grabbing a handful of flowers and giving them a good whiff. It smells like relaxation and I’m a fan. Lavender is a star in the garden because you can grow it in pots, or directly in the soil. It can tolerant dry conditions, sunshine, and a good bit of wind. The only thing is, if you have London clay soil you should work in some organic matter (like leaf mould or garden compost), to help improve drainage. At end of summer (early September) the beautiful purple flowers that are much loved by our bees, will have dried out and it’s time to cut back the stems and make use of the scented dried flowers.
